A Toggl Track alternative for freelancers and teams who bill by the hour
Clockaroo turns your tracked hours into a finished invoice in your client's language, on every plan, for one flat price per person. Here is how it stacks up against Toggl Track, including what Toggl does that we don't. Toggl facts as of October 2026, from Toggl's own pricing and help pages.
We make Clockaroo and are not affiliated with Toggl. Toggl and Toggl Track are trademarks of their owner, and we name them only to compare.
Who switches, and why
Toggl Track is a time tracker first. It turns a report into an invoice that you download as a PDF; the layout can't be changed, and Toggl doesn't keep the invoices it makes. Timesheet approvals and profitability reports start with the Premium plan, at $16 a user a month billed yearly. If you want invoices that stay in the same tool as your hours, in your client's language, or you bill clients in Germany who expect an XRechnung or ZUGFeRD file, that is exactly what Clockaroo is built for.

Toggl's prices are the US prices on its pricing page, read on October 24, 2026. Our prices exclude VAT. Your Clockaroo price stays the same for 24 months from your first payment, and new workspaces get Team free for 14 days with no card. See pricing.
Per person, our Team plan costs less than Toggl's Starter plan and includes approvals, costs and profit, which Toggl keeps for Premium. Toggl's Free plan takes up to 3 users; ours takes one, with real invoices from day one.
What Toggl does that we don't
Toggl Track has desktop and mobile apps, browser extensions, and integrations with tools such as Jira and Asana. It rounds time in its reports, plans work on a timeline and on boards, and manages time off. Its Free plan takes up to 3 users, it imports CSV files from any tool and has an importer for Harvest, and its comparison page promises “no surprise increases at renewal, ever”.
Clockaroo also has limits of its own: invoicing works for businesses based in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States. Elsewhere you can track time and export your hours for now.
What Clockaroo does
- A timer and a week timesheet. Each entry belongs to a client, a project and a task, and you decide whether it's billable.
- Invoices straight from unbilled hours, on every plan. When you issue one, the number is assigned and the invoice is locked.
- For clients in Germany, an XRechnung or ZUGFeRD file with the invoice, checked before it goes out. You can try the format without an account in our free e-invoice creator.
- Weekly approvals, and a setting that lets only approved hours go on an invoice.
- Project budgets in hours or money, with an email when a project reaches 80% and 100%, and the estimated profit per project.
- Quotes your client accepts from a link, recurring invoices for fixed fees, and payment reminders.
- A ZIP of all your data at any time, and a DATEV export for your tax adviser in Germany.
- One price per person, locked for 24 months.
Switching from Toggl Track
In Toggl Track, open the detailed report for the period you want, export it as CSV and upload it in Clockaroo. You see the people, clients, projects and hours before anything is imported, and you choose which hours were already invoiced, so they never go on a new invoice. Tags, invoices and expenses stay in Toggl. You can import again later; only rows that are missing are added.
Two limits on Toggl's side: its help says the detailed report can't be exported as CSV on the Free plan, and points Free users to Settings, Data Export instead. And a report covers at most one year, so a longer history takes one file per year.
Start a free trial Team free for 14 days, no card. After that you move to Free, and nothing is deleted.
